Government failing on its five key priorities, voters say

Voters say the Tories are failing to meet their main objectives, six months after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak revealed the Government’s top five priorities for the country.

A new poll by Omnisis has revealed most voters feel the Government is ‘doing badly’ on every single priority:

  • Halving inflation

    • 62% doing badly
    • 13% doing well
    • 20% neither
    • 5% don’t know

  • Reducing debt

    • 58% doing badly
    • 12% doing well
    • 22% neither
    • 7% don’t know

  • Growing the economy

    • 55% doing badly
    • 16% doing well
    • 23% neither
    • 5% don’t know

  • Cutting NHS waiting lists

    • 66% doing badly
    • 12% doing well
    • 17% neither
    • 5% don’t know

  • Stopping small boat crossings

    • 57% doing badly
    • 12% doing well
    • 22% neither
    • 9% don’t know

ARTIFICAL INTELLIGENCE: FRIEND OR FOE?

As experts suggest that AI could pose an existential threat to humanity and the US military sources revealed AI would kill its operator to achieve its mission, Omnisis asked UK voters their thoughts.

Half (50%) of people said AI was a threat to humans, only a quarter (24%) of people said it wasn’t while 26% said they didn’t know.

Meanwhile, 76% believe AI should be regulated with only 10% saying it shouldn’t and 13% saying they don’t know.

And 41% of people think AI will impact their job security in future, with 38% saying it wouldn’t and 20% s aying they don’t know.

On the Omnisis weekly voter intention tracker, Labour’s lead stretched to 21 points as Rishi Sunak’s approval rating plunged to a net -15 and Sir Keir Starmer saw his lead in the race for ‘Best PM’ increase to seven points.

  • Don’t Know: 35% (NC)

ON BREXIT SENTIMENT

All respondents 

  • Stay Out: 31% (-2) 
  • Re-join: 49% (+2)

Excluding don’t knows and will not votes

  • Stay Out: 39% (-2)
  • Re-join: 61% (+2)  

This week’s poll which was conducted on 1st-2nd June 2023, questioned 1,351 people and is weighted to a national representative population.
