Six in ten people want UK to re-join the European Union

More than 60% of Brits want to re-join the EU with nearly the same number saying Britain was wrong to leave in the first place, a new poll shows.

Omnisis, one of the few pollsters to regularly track Brexit sentiment amongst British voters, recorded 62% of people saying they want the country to re-join the European Union, with 38% saying Britain should stay out.

Omnisis also asked voters if Britain was right or wrong to leave the EU, with 59% saying we were wrong to leave versus 41% saying we were right.

Brian Cooper, Managing Director of Omnisis, said: “Since the beginning of the year our Brexit sentiment tracker has hovered around the 60-40 mark of voters who think the UK should re-join the European Union.

“We’re seeing the same kind of split on the question of whether Britain was right or wrong to leave the EU.

“The data are interesting because we are now seeing a very stable and consistent message from voters that perhaps the debate over Brexit should be far from being done.”

WHO’S BEST FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Meanwhile, voters said the Government is doing poorly on climate change and that they trust Labour to do better on the environment.

61% said the Government is doing badly on climate change and net zero, with only 13% saying they are doing well. 26% said neither.

Nearly two thirds (62%) also said they trust Labour to protect and improve the environment with 38% saying Conservative.

Omnisis also asked voters where the UK’s energy focus should be, with renewables still leading the way:

  • 43% solar
  • 39% offshore wind
  • 29% onshore wind
  • 21% nuclear
  • 16% existing gas
  • 15% new gas
  • 12% existing oil
  • 10% new oil
  • 22% don’t know
